Carbon

  Did you know that you have carbon? The carbon in your body could once have been in someone else's breath or even the bone of a dinosaur. Carbon is an important element on this planet. The important element is used to make coral & shellfish, then gets turned into limestone. Scientists have found carbon in every living form and nonliving form. This element gets locked up for millions of years. Earth is made up of 118 elements. Humus, decaying leaves, is 70% carbon. 

Carbon dioxide (co2)

Carbon dioxide is made up of two elements: carbon and oxygen. Co2 has a very important job: it traps heat in the atmosphere. Without co2 we would be freezing to death. Plants do photosynthesis to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and ground. They use energy from the sun to combine this co2 and h2o to make sugar, which keeps plants alive. 

Excess co2 traps heat in the atmosphere; it's called the greenhouse gas. Since the industrial revolution, humans have been burning fossil fuels, e.g. coal, wood, gas, and oil. The increased level of co2 in the atmosphere is having a huge effect on worldwide climate patterns.

The main three-carbon sinks are oceans, forests, and soil. A carbon sink is a living, breathing storehouse for one of Earth's essential elements. Oceans, forests, and soil are in any system that absorbs more carbon than it releases.  These natural ecosystems can absorb carbon from the atmosphere. Carbon sinks are becoming more important than ever. While trees are growing they can release carbon into the atmosphere. The ocean covers 70% of the earth. There is more carbon stored in the Earth's soils than there is in the atmosphere and forests combined. Climate change is causing the oceans to warm up, and the warmer an ocean is, the less co2 it can absorb. Forest fires whether caused by humans or nature also release huge amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

We can stop global warming by using public transport or getting electric cars. We can also power our home with renewable energy, eat the food we buy, make less meat, plant trees, and reduce water waste. We can stop burning fossil fuels and stop cutting down trees. 

Stuck

 I am Trevor. I am gonna tell you my most embarrassing moment at school. One morning me and my friends were playing I dare you when my teacher went to the printer room to get some copies for the test. I lost when we played I dare you. One of my friends dared me to put my whole body through the hole in the chair. I don’t know what I was thinking. I was pretty overweight. I slipped my legs through the hole of the chair. It stopped at my waist. It got stuck. I couldn't pull it off. Everyone was in a circle talking & laughing. Suddenly I saw Mrs. Francis walk in. She pushed through the circle to see what was going on. She told me to follow her and told the rest of the class to go to class next door. 

We went to the office then called the fire department and started cutting but it was still around my waist. They gave me pants to change into to see if it would come off with pants but it just didn’t slip off so I went back to the office and started crying in terror scared it wouldn't come off. Mr. Waller walked in, he is the smartest teacher ever in the whole entire universe. He thought of a brilliant idea. Mr. Waller grabbed the vaseline and rubbed it around the chair all of a sudden it slipped off. I stopped crying and said “ Thank you,” to the firemen, Mrs. Francis and Mr. Waller.

“Where’s the tv remote?” my dad said, screaming at me in an angry voice. “I don’t have the remote,” I said as I scrolled through TikTok. “You had it last night when you were watching the yellow weird creatures! Plus “It’s always you.” my dad said, throwing the pillows around, opening the drawers, and pushing me off the couch to see if the remote is under the couch. My dad was getting mad because the rugby game was on soon. I was actually watching the Simpsons, it’s not weird creatures.

 The next day in the afternoon

“Where are my sunglasses he’s gonna be here any minute?” my sister said in a rush. I shrugged, “I DON’T KNOW!, ” I said as I slammed my door.

“Because it’s always you,” My sister said in an annoyed tone. 

I was annoyed that I was getting the blame and that my family was blaming me. I really wanted to find that person that is taking these things cause I hate getting the blame. 

A few minutes later my sister’s boyfriend arrived. She was annoyed that she had no sunglasses but she was happy at the same time because they went on a lunch date to her favorite restaurant. 

A couple of hours later when my sister left for her date my mum’s car keys went missing. At that time I was eating a chicken and mayo sandwich and drinking orange juice. “ Where are the car keys? I am gonna be late for my meeting” Mum said as she looked in her purse. “ I don’t know, I don’t drive,” I said as I took a big bite out of my chicken and mayo sandwich. “ Where is it I am pretty sure you had it last,”  my mum said as she checked in the kitchen. “ No mum I didn’t you had it last and why am I getting the blame,” I said as I drank my orange juice and turned on the tv to watch the Simpsons. “ You are getting the blame because   “It’s always you.” My mum said as she was looking through the supermarket bags. Suddenly we heard someone’s phone ring we were not sure whose it was it wasn’t mine or my dad’s when I went to go reach for the phone in her handbag it wasn’t there she was worried because it was probably her boss about the meeting we followed the noise we ended up in the backyard we saw I do fido digging it. We moved fido and we saw my sister's sunnies, mum’s car keys, the remote and mum’s phone.

My parents felt so bad for me because they blamed me. They decided that my sister has to take me to my friend's house when I need to do a project for the whole month and my parents are gonna take me to the mall to get anything I want with 50 dollars, the best day ever.

I ran across the court calling for the ball to pass it down to the shooters to get a goal. The ball went flying in the air straight in my arms. I look for one of the shooters that are free to get the ball. I spotted one in the semi-circle next to the goal, I let go of the ball to throw to the shooters, they caught it, now it has to go up and in.1st goal down. More to go.

I get ready to defend someone from the other team. The other team struggles to find someone to pass to. I heard the other team say just let go of the ball. In netball, you are only allowed to hold the ball for 5 seconds if you are yr 5 and 6 at school. 3sec if you yr7 and over. Once they let go of the ball I run and jump up for the ball. The ball slipped out of my hands, the other team grabbed it from the ground and pass it down to their shooters. The shooters threw it up in the air and it hit the side of the goal. The shooters tried to get the rebound but the defence from my team caught it passed it to the wing defence, The wing defence did a big pass to pass it to the wing attack to pass to the shooters.2nd goal down

Sometimes I get angry when someone doesn't know what to do when the umpire blows the whistle and tells them what to do with the hand signals.

My team and I are undefeated and we haven't lost one single game we did grading our first game is next week. I play for Mangere hawks.

 I was sitting in the living room. Suddenly, darkness enveloped the room. I was home alone. I didn't know what was happening. My family had gone to my cousin's house to drop off some Cupcakes my mum made. I heard a loud crash. I was so scared so I rang my family to see what happened. They said they couldn't come back home. The roads are closed and there has been a car crash. I looked outside and went for a walk around the block. There was a car that crashed into the power line pole. The cops were surrounding.

I've ever had. She also makes the best pasta, pad thai

My Mum is a helpful person. She always takes

me and my brother to our training and she buys

and makes our food. She buys clothes for my family and I to wear and she pays the bills so my family and

I can have a roof over our heads.

My mum is a hard-working person she does night

shift so at day time she can take me and

my brother training. She works for Fisher Paykel

appliances and she does calls for people in America.

My mum is a caring person because every time

I finish my food and she starts to eat her food she

will offer me her food. She will also let me wear her

clothes when it is very cold even though it’s big on

me but at least it keeps me warm.

Letter to Carla

 Mr waller is reading us a book called A Boy In A Girls Bathroom and this boy named Bradley is writing a letter to Carla his counselor that left to work at a kindergarten. And we are trying to guess what Bradley wrote to Carla.

Dear Carla, 

It is a pleasure to write to you. I am so sorry for not coming to your office after school. I'm also sorry for not helping you move your stuff, being mad at you, and screaming at you. I wanted to go for a haircut then I changed my mind when we were nearly there. I asked my mum If she could drop me off but she said no because we were almost there. It smelled like chewed bubble gum. After my haircut I begged my mum to go to the school she took me to and I ran to the room and I got your letter. 

Thank you for talking to me whenever I needed help. Also meand Jeff are friends. He came to my house to pick me up to walk to colleen birthday. I Got changed 6 times. I made a hold in my pants like Jeff. 

I went to Colleen’s birthday party. When we got to Colleen's house we rang the doorbell and I heard the girls scream. Oooo presents what is it Colleen said  I  almost said what it was but  Jeff elbowed me so didn’t tell her then I started to sing happy birthday then  Jeff elbowed me again.  It was fun we played games. And my team won most of the games. I  made a new friend.  The dog's name is chicken. When Colleen read her letter  I put love Bradley in her letter and everyone laughed but then this girl Karen told them to stop and when we sang happy birthday I got the words mixed up and then I was the only one singing but we had a laugh. I came first place and we also got points when we played the games. We did a 3 legged race. I was with Jeff because Mrs. Fairygold said that boys can not be tied with girls. 

I really hope you write back to me. I really do miss you.
